Francolina is operated by Krish Ramesh, a High School Senior from Charlotte, North Carolina. Dedicated to historical preservation, education, and cultural understanding, Krish operates Francolina in the hopes of educating his local community about the French presence in the Carolinas. Francolina cooperates with local history museums such as the Fort Mill History Museum to gain access to primary sources and various documents. Francolina is entirely based online, with a few in-person operations, primarily for education.
Krish Ramesh, a graduating High School Senior from Charlotte, North Carolina and incoming student to Duke University, manages and operates the Francolina website. Krish founded Francolina in May of 2024 after learning about Dr. Desportes from the Fort Mill History Museum. Alarmed with the rates of declining French speakers at his High School and a general declining trend of those who are interested in history, Krish wanted to give back to his community what he was given, and founded the Francolina Educational Institute. Operating as a website, Francolina details the 'French presence' in the Carolinas (both North and South Carolina) via discussing various historical and social excerpts which include France or the French people. As the story of the Carolinas is deeply intwined with the history, people, and culture of France, this website serves as an oppertunity for those who wish to learn more about how France has impacted the Carolinas to do so.
Krish hopes to study History and French in college, with the aims of pairing a history major with either a European studies minor or a minor in Linguistics. Krish is interested in continuing his research of the Napoleonic Wars along with French History, with the hopes of eventually specializing receiving a PHD in history. He later hopes to become a history professor, and teach classes on the Napoleonic Wars along with French History, the Civil War, the Roman Republic, and the Cold War.
Francolina Educational Institute was founded to educate Krish's local community regarding French history. In particular, FEI is dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of French interactions with the Carolinas. Through educational missions, such as cooperation between local museums such as the Fort Mill History Museum, Francolina hopes to preserve the rich history of the Carolinas. Educational operatives such as partnering with pioneer crafts, launching lunch-ins with local members of the community, and canvassing awareness for community events are employed by FEI to spread the news about Francolina's mission, operatives, and goals.
Francolina continues its online presence as the primary form of education, as the website can be reached by virtually anyone at any time. Furthermore, Francolina offers student researchers an ample amount of information for research projects, along with providing them with opportunities to help contribute their knowledge to the Francolina project.
Francolina is one of the leading missions to preserve the French heritage in the Carolinas, and hopes that other students, teachers, and members of the community follow suit to preserve the history of France in the Carolinas.
